Feb 17th - Windows Server AppFabric and “Velocity” w/ Jon Flanders
|
![]() |
|
Abstract:
Windows Server AppFabric is a set of integrated technologies that make it easier to build, scale and manage Web and composite applications that run on IIS. For Web applications, AppFabric provides caching capabilities to provide high-speed access, scale, and high availability to application data. This feature was previously codenamed "Velocity". “Velocity” is a distributed in-memory cache that provides applications with high-speed access, scale, and high availability to application data. Client applications that utilize the cache may be distributed across multiple computers or processes. Jon will be exploring the feature of Velcoity in detail.

Nov 18th - SQL Server Service Broker in the Real World w/ Denny Cherry
|
![]() |
|
Abstract:
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and 2008 include a fantastic feature that few people understand or use. That feature is the Microsoft SQL Server Service Broker. In this session we’ll dig into how to configure the service broker for not only intra-database message queuing, but database to database queuing as well as server to server database queuing. We will also dig into a real life scenario where the SQL Server Service Broker was used to do ETL from an OLTP database to an OLAP database in near real time for near real time reporting.
About the Presenter: Denny Cherry, Senior Database Administrator and Architect, Awareness Technologies
Denny Cherry has more than a decade of experience managing Microsoft SQL Server, including the database at MySpace.com that supports 175 million users, which is one of the largest SQL Server installations in the world. His areas of technical expertise include system architecture, performance tuning, replication, and troubleshooting. Denny uses these skills on a regular basis in his role as a senior database administrator and architect at Awareness Technologies. Denny is a longtime member of the Professional Association for SQL Server (PASS) and the Quest Software Association of SQL Server Experts, and he has written numerous technical articles on SQL Server management.

Sep 16th - Practical and RAD MVC w/ Steve Bearman & Nuri Halperin
|
![]() |
|
Abstract: Steve Bearman and Nuri Halperin will speak and build a complete and practical ASP.NET MVC application, from start to finish, showing rapid application development (RAD) with MVC. (even quickly building a database with an Entity Framework data access layer)
This will be *the* jump-start presentation to get developers actually going with MVC. The presentation is both enjoyable and practical, with well motivated steps and an interesting presentation. In each major area of the development we clearly show necessary steps, leveraging what Microsoft provides, recommendations, and best practices.
The MVC framework is even better than we all expected.
About the Presenter: Nuri and Steve are .NET developers in the Los Angeles area. They are now working as a team to provide practical, professional presentations (among other things).
They have spoken at most of the Los Angeles area .NET user groups and are regular speakers at Code Camps. At last month's San Diego Code Camp, for example, there presentations were:
-
"Stop Searching - Start Finding!" (search engine theory and demos showing how to add search engines to your web site) (Nuri)
- "Go International! Writing localized applications" (Nuri)
- "Advanced C# Part 1: Generics, Enumerables, and LINQ Extension Methods" (Steve)
- "Advanced C# Part 2: Collections, Delegate Patterns, and Useful Generic Methods" (Steve)
