April 15th – ADO .NET Connecting with Bill Vaughn

Abstract: ADO.NET Connecting. This sessions walks through the maze of issues that developers from all parts of the universe (except Cleveland) encounter when trying to connect. We’ll see how to determine which servers are visible, how to make servers visible (and hide them), how to determine if they’re running or stopped, how to know when they go down and what to do when it happens. More importantly, we show how to build a ConnectString that can be seen from the Profiler, make sure that your ASP application does not bite the dust because it has overflowed the pool, how to monitor the pool and far more.

About the Presenter: William (Bill) Vaughn is an industry-recognized author, mentor and subject-matter expert on Visual Studio, SQL Server, Reporting Services and data access technologies. He’s worked in the computer industry for over thirty-seven years. In 2000, after 14 years at Microsoft, Bill stepped away to work on his books, consulting, mentoring and independent training seminars. His latest books include Hitchhiker’s Guide to Visual Studio and SQL Server (7th Edition) and Hitchhiker’s Guide to SQL Server Compact Edition. He and Peter Blackburn also wrote the critically acclaimed Hitchhiker’s Guide to SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services. He’s available for consulting, mentoring or custom training.
