About this Course

In this course you will learn the what, why, how, when and where around non-relational (NoSQL) database technologies. Here you will understand the different types of NoSQL data storage options that are in popular use now. These include graph databases, such as Neo4j and Freebase; key-value stores such as DynamoDB and Cassandra, document data stores such as MongoDB and column data stores such as Hadoop. You will learn about and work with both locally hosted versions of these data stores as well as cloud-based versions. Importantly, you’ll understand when to use which type(s) of data stores to best suit your business requirements.

Course Objectives

1) Understand the capabilities (and limitations) of NoSQL databases
2) See an example of each type of NoSQL database
3) Understand basic query technologies for NoSQL data stores by working with Hadoop (working with MapReduce, Pig and HIVE)
4) Get hands-on experience installing, querying and performing basic administration with MongoDB

Course Prerequisites

This course is specifically designed for working SQL Server professionals (both developers and DBAs). Comparative examples (i.e. NoSQL vs. RDBMS) will be used extensively to facilitate faster learning.

Sample

Take a look at this 5 minute video to get a preview of the hands-on portion of the class – ’5 Minutes to Getting Started with MongoDB’

This presentation takes a brief look into the embedded device opportunities, shows the steps to build an embedded devices and develop application for embedded devices, using Microsoft technologies.

One of Microsoft’s key advantage and strength is the ability to deliver and maintain developer friendly and productive development tool, such as the Visual Studio family of development tools. With Windows Embedded Compact, you can develop real-world application from the Visual Studio IDE.

If you are already familiar with the Visual Studio development environment, coding in C++, C# or Visual Basic, you already have the basic knowledge which you can leverage to develop Windows Embedded application.

About the Presenter:Samuel Phung has worked in the technology field for more than 20 years. In the early 1990s, he led a financial database software team, developing software for the banking industry. Later he led a software team developing Windows-Based telephony application for a venture capital-funded startup. He started to work in the embedded computing field in the late 1990s and engaged with the Windows Embedded product team, starting with Windows NT 4.0 Embedded. He has been working with Windows Embedded Compact (formerly known as Windows CE), since version 2.12 was introduced. Samuel authored two books about Windows Embedded Compact, “Professional Microsoft Windows Embedded CE 6.0” in 2008 and “Professional Windows Embedded Compact 7” in 2011. Samuel enjoys working with technology, actively engages with the academic community, and received the Windows Embedded MVP recognition from Microsoft since 2005. As part of his involvement in the academic community, Samuel actively works with university teaching professionals in the United States, Asia, Europe and other regions to adopt Windows Embedded technology as part of their teaching curriculum.

As part of his Windows Embedded community activities, Samuel maintains a personal website: www.embeddedpc.net, to provide information resources related to Windows Embedded. In 2010, he initiated the Embedded101 Windows Embedded community portal, www.embedded101.com.

Abstract: Command Query Responsibility Segregation (CQRS) is an approach, a mindset to reduce complexities in application development. In its essence, CQRS is the creation of two objects where there was previously only one. CQRS is a very simple pattern that enables opportunities for architecture that may otherwise not exists. I will discuss what CQRS is in its simplest form and how it can be used to; capture business intent, data warehousing, event sourcing, and help reduce application complexity. After giving a brief overview of CQRS, I walk through developing a simple application using DDD and CQRS.
