July 20th – Advanced ASP.NET MVC3 w/ Hattan Shobokshi

Abstract: In this talk we will be taking an in depth look at ASP.NET MVC3. Many of the new features in the version 3 release will be covered, as well as new features provided by the recent MVC3 tools update. We will take a detailed look at the powerful new Razor view engine, examining it’s syntax and looking at how it is different from the standard aspx view engine. In addition, we’ll examine at a few open source frameworks that will speed your asp.net mvc development time and provide functionality such as scaffolding, logging, diagnostics and advanced mvc grids. Along the way we’ll cover some best practices for developing MVC3 web apps and I’ll show you some of the extensibility features of the framework.

About the Presenter: Hattan Shobokshi is a Senior Software Engineer for a regional transportation company. He is responsible for developing applications on a variety of platforms including web and mobile devices. Hattan has been creating web applications exclusively in ASP.NET MVC for the last several years and continues to enjoy the platform. He is a passionate web developer that is focused delivering scalable applications that adhere to industry best practices. June 15th – Web Design & Development with WebMatrix and ASP.NET MVC with Alice Pang

Abstract: WebMatrix is an all-inclusive, simple web development tool from Microsoft that includes everything you need for website development.  You can start with open source web applications, built-in web templates, or your own code.  All the tools are in a single unified interface, and you can publish directly with a reliable hosting provider when you’re ready.  This talk will discuss the ideal scenarios for using WebMatrix and demonstrate how simple it is to create a web page and publish it to the internet using WebMatrix.  I will also show you how easy it is to get a WordPress site up and running and discuss Razor syntax.

About the Presenter: Alice grew up in Louisiana and came out to sunny California after high school to attend Stanford University, where she received her B.S. in Electrical Engineering with a Software concentration. She then moved across the bay to get her M.S. degree in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research and Management of Technology certificate through the Haas School of Business and College of Engineering at the University of California at Berkeley. While at Stanford and Berkeley, she was heavily involved in various dance groups and enjoyed organizing networking, mentoring, and community outreach events for the Society of Women Engineers. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, discovering new places to eat, rock climbing, and sharing Louisiana and Chinese culture with people. Abstract: How will you sell a product from your e-store that requires the buyer to be at least 21 years old when you can not ask the date of birth to the buyer? How can you externalize authentication/authorization of your users and not store user credentials? What is claims based authentication? What is STS? April 20th – Aspect Oriented Programming & Code Generation w/ Dustin Davis

Abstract: How do you get more done by doing less work? How do you maintain sanity when required to write boiler plate code over and over? Code generation! It’s all around us in just about every tool we use while developing. We’ll take a look at 3 levels of code generation and how you can take advantage of it to increase productivity, consistency and even cleanliness of code.

Aspect-oriented programming (AOP) is a programming paradigm which aims to increase modularity by allowing the separation of cross-cutting concerns. We’ll also dive into Aspect Oriented Programming and some of the frameworks that make it possible. What is AOP? How can I use AOP? Where can AOP be applied? I’ll cover these questions and more while teaching you how to utilize one of the super tools you’ll never want to be without, PostSharp.
