Concurrent Software Development - The Next Big Thing
..:: PLEASE RSVP HERE ::..

For 18th October
meeting Kim Greenlee, of digipede will talk about "Concurrent Software Development – The
Next Big Thing". Digipede is an easy to use distributed computing grid
system built using .NET framework.
With the advent of dual-core and dual-processor machines, concurrent
software development is breaking onto the scene--creating a paradigm shift like
we haven't seen since the OO movement. Two
technologies that will help you add concurrency to your applications are
threads and grid objects. While you can
find a lot of documentation about adding threading to your apps, there isn't
very much available to tell you how threads really work. I'll explain that to you. I will also use the Digipede Network to introduce
you to grid objects. Grid objects give
you the ability to easily distribute application functionality on a compute
grid.
Building fast, scalable applications begins during the
design phase and extends through the life of your application. After this presentation you will understand
the Microsoft threading model. You will
be introduced to grid computing as an extension of the threading model. I will show you how the Digipede Network's
grid computing solution eliminates some of the problems inherent in multi-threaded
applications. And you should leave with
a better understanding of how the two technologies can work together to improve
your application's scalability and performance.
Speaker's Bio: Kim
Greenlee is a Digipede Evangelist. Kim has been actively involved in commercial
software development since 1987 on both the engineering and marketing sides. During
her career Kim has focused on small companies and startups pursuing leading
edge solutions and she has won several corporate awards for her engineering
contributions. Kim holds a B.S. in Computer Science and Mathematics from St. Bonaventure
University, plays and coaches women’s hockey, and is generally a fun person. She is blogging at: http://krgreenlee.blogspot.com/
