started quickly and easily. This seminar will also explore the various
ways to retrieve and present data. You will see examples of using combo
boxes, list boxes, list views, etc. You will see how to use data
triggers and how to add/edit/delete data as well. If you are new to
WPF, and an ASP.NET developer or Windows Forms developer, you need to attend this seminar to see how to effectively use WPF and XAML. WPF in the Real World: (Register Below) Windows

May 20th - Generics, Collections, and Enumerables w/ Steve Bearman
|
![]() |
|
Abstract: With Generics, Generic Collections, and Generic Enumerables we are now writing code in new, much more powerful ways. Generics (MyClass<T>, List<T>, etc.) is the foundation of this, and all three are a critical part of many leading edge technologies, including LINQ. They are also powerful, effective tools for your own use. In this practical, feature-packed, C# code intensive session you will learn the ins and outs of Generics, and its uses and limitations. We will explore enumerable interfaces (required for foreach( ), LINQ, and LINQ extension methods), how they work, how to use them, and especially how to get the compiler to do most of the implementation. We'll cover the generic versions of .NET Collections (List< >, LinkedList< >, Stack< >, Queue< >, Dictionary< >, HashSet< >, etc.) and how to select and how to use them. We'll also look at the new generic delegate types and new design patterns that use them. We will see this in action with a simple Poker card example. From a card class (and its enumeration) and decks (collections), through shuffling (enumerating with a generic method), dealing and cheating (enumerating with collections, generic delegates), to evaluating poker hands (enumerations and surprisingly simple LINQ).
About the Presenter: Steve Bearman is an independent software developer with his company, Suzy B Studios, and Chase Computing International, and Systems Engine. He has developed software throughout his professional career, originally in direct support of science and engineering, later for the broader range of technology, medicine, business, ecommerce, and finance. He has taught graduate-level computer science, and has published technical papers dealing with the collection and use of data. For several years he managed operations and marketing for a manufacturing corporation. His recent large software projects include supporting international clients for a large, networked GPS-based fleet management system he developed; developing software for a large hedge fund; and designing and developing ASP.NET software in support of NASA/JPL's Deep Space Network. He has many great colleagues and enjoys collaborating on projects of all sizes.

Feb 18th - M in depth: the underpinning of Oslo w/ Jon Flanders
|
![]() |
|
Abstract: Oslo is the code name for a suite of products from Microsoft (currently in CTP) that encourage and enable model-driven applications. It includes a language for writing down models ("M"), a tool for viewing models ("Quadrant"), and a database for storing instances of models ("Repository"). M is the foundational technology in Oslo, enabling models to be created and stored in the repository. It has a declarative language (MSchema) for creating these relational models, as well as facilities to tap into the parsing and transformation engine used for MSchema to build your own Domain Specific Langauges (DSLs). In this session we'll build models with MSchema to use both in and outside of the Oslo Repository and peek into the engine to build a DSL to help drive an application.
About the Presenter: Jon is most at home spelunking, trying to figure out exactly how things work. Jon wrote Essential ASP for Addison-Wesley, and co-authored Mastering Visual Studio.NET for O'Reilly, and is currently working on a book on REST and WCF for O'Reilly. Jon has also been involved with Windows Workflow Foundation and Windows Communication Foundation since early betas and currently is interested in helping Microsoft developers learn about REST.

Jan 21 - Do I need a Enterprise Service Bus? w/ Kevin Orbaker
|
![]() |
|
Enterprise applications rarely live in isolation; in today's highly integrated world, application can't do much that is very useful without working with other applications. Service-Oriented Architecture addresses the trend of integrating applications so that they can work together and accelerates it, breaking each application into parts that then must be integrated with each other. The SOA model may seem simple, but it introduces two significant problems; How does a consumer find a particular service to invoke, and secondly, how do these services get invoked quickly and reliably. These questions are addressed by the Enterprise Service Bus. But the mere mention of an ESB creates more questions than answers. This session will discuss the why's and why not's of the Enterprise Service Bus, what it is and when you need it.
About the Presenter As an Integration Practice Manager at speakTECH, Kevin Orbaker helps client to create seamless information sharing to enable business optimization and total information transparency through integrated systems and automated application process. Kevin is a member of the Microsoft CSD Virtual Technology Specialist team. He has extensive architectural and implementation experience with Microsoft's Enterprise Service Bus guidance. Kevin has years of integration experience with multiple technologies, including EDI, HL7, and Host Integration. Kevin has consulted for a variety of industries, ranging from commercial and residential real estate, entertainment, technology and public institution.
